How long will a 100Ah battery last with a 200W load?

Short answer

A 200 W AC load through a 90% inverter runs about 4.6 hours (4 h 36 min) on a 100Ah LiFePO4 battery used to 80%. On a 12 V 100Ah lead-acid used to 50% it is about 2.7 hours on paper and about 2.1 hours once the Peukert correction for its higher current is applied.

How to work it out

  1. 100 Ah × 12.8 V × 80% usable = 1,024 Wh
  2. 200 W ÷ 90% inverter = 222.2 W average
  3. 1,024 Wh ÷ 222.2 W = 4.6 hours (4 h 36 min)

Two hundred watts is a TV and a laptop together, a small blender, or a box fan on high with lights. It is a useful middle figure for evenings in a van or a power cut.

Sets how much of the rated capacity you plan to use: 80% for LiFePO4 (Victron rates cycle life at 80% depth of discharge), 50% for lead-acid (Trojan recommends 20–50% for long life).

Victron puts modern inverters above 90%.

For anything on a thermostat. A 12 V compressor fridge runs roughly 25–50% of the time (Victron’s example); a household fridge about a third (Virginia Cooperative Extension).
What the inverter uses just being on, all the time it is on. It matters most for small loads left running 24/7 — a CPAP, Starlink, a fridge.
°F
Batteries hold less when cold: Victron gives about 80% for LiFePO4 at 32 °F (0 °C) and 50% at −4 °F (−20 °C); lead-acid about 86% at 32 °F. LiFePO4 must not be charged below 41 °F (5 °C) unless it is self-heating.

What to know about a 200 W load

  • On DC it lasts longer. The same 200 W straight from the battery — 12 V appliances, no inverter — runs about 5.1 hours because there is no inverter loss.
  • The current is modest. About 17 A at 12.8 V is gentle on any 100 Ah battery and well inside typical BMS limits.
  • Lead-acid at 50%. A 100 Ah lead-acid battery has about 600 Wh to give if you want it to last, so 200 W through an inverter is about 2.7 hours on paper — about 2.1 hours after the Peukert correction for an 18.5 A draw.
  • Mix it like real life. An evening of 200 W for 3 hours plus a 25 W fridge all day is about 1.27 kWh — more than one 100 Ah battery holds usable. The solar load calculator adds it up.

Heavier loads are on how long a 100Ah battery lasts with a 1000W inverter; lighter, all-night ones on how long a 100Ah battery runs a CPAP.
