How much power does Starlink use per day?
Starlink lists the Standard kit at 75–100 W on average, so 24 hours is 1.8–2.4 kWh at the plug. At the top of that range (2,400 Wh) it takes 2,667 Wh out of a battery once a 90% inverter takes its share, or 222 Ah from a 12 V bank.
How to work it out
- AC loads: 2,400 Wh ÷ 90% inverter efficiency = 2,667 Wh
- + DC loads 0 Wh = 2,667 Wh a day
- 2,667 Wh ÷ 12 V = 222 Ah a day from the battery
A Standard Starlink dish and router is an always-on load, which is what makes it expensive off-grid: it is not the watts, it is the 24 hours. The number below uses the top of Starlink’s published average so a battery sized on it does not come up short.

Appliance by appliance
| Appliance | Watts × hours | Per day | From battery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starlink Standard | 100 W × 24 h (AC) | 2,400 Wh | 2,667 Wh |
- An appliance over 100 W is set to run nearly 24 h. If it has a thermostat (fridge, freezer, heater), it cycles — enter its running hours, not the hours it is plugged in.
- Your inverter must carry at least 100 W continuous if all the AC loads can run at once, plus any motor starting surge — check it with the inverter size calculator.

| 80% | 3,000 Wh | 250 Ah | 90 kWh |
| 85% | 2,824 Wh | 235 Ah | 84.7 kWh |
| 90% | 2,667 Wh | 222 Ah | 80 kWh |

What to know about running Starlink off-grid
- Average, not peak. Starlink’s spec sheet gives 75–100 W as an average. Snow melt and heating raise it in cold weather, so winter use on a cold roof will sit at the top of the range or above it.
- The inverter costs you about 10%. The Standard kit’s power supply runs on 100–240 V AC, so off-grid it usually runs through an inverter. At 90% efficiency, 2,400 Wh of AC becomes about 2,667 Wh from the battery — more if a big inverter idles for a small load.
- Turn it off when you sleep. Eight hours off saves a third of the daily total. The battery runtime calculator shows how many hours a given bank buys you.
- Solar to match. About 2.7 kWh a day needs roughly 750–800 W of panels at 4 peak sun hours after typical losses — check yours on the solar panel calculator.
Using the smaller dish instead? How much power the Starlink Mini uses works out the 12 V version, which skips the inverter entirely.

What you’ll need
- Inline DC watt meterBudget price
Sits between a 12 V device and its supply and shows watts, amps and watt-hours used — handy for measuring a 12 V fridge, Starlink Mini or fan.

Counts amp-hours in and out, so you see true state of charge instead of guessing from voltage — which barely moves on a LiFePO4 battery until it is nearly empty.

Frequently asked questions
How much power does Starlink use at the low end of its average, 75 W?
About 2,000 Wh a day from the battery through a 90% inverter (1,800 Wh at the plug), or 167 Ah at 12 V.
How much power does Starlink use if it is only on 12 hours a day?
Half as much: 1,333 Wh from the battery at 100 W average, or 111 Ah at 12 V.
How many amp-hours does Starlink use per day on a 24 V system?
About 111 Ah a day at 24 V (100 W average for 24 hours through a 90% inverter).
